Community and coffee on the move
nafen is a specialty coffee bar that drives to your event. Not a caterer with a coffee urn and not a café with a stall — a commercial espresso setup built into the back of a 4x4, so it can be wherever the day actually happens.
Who is actually behind it
nafen is small, and deliberately so. There is one vehicle, which means one event at a time and nobody subcontracted in at the last minute to stand behind a machine they have never used.
We are based in the Girona province and most of what we do is within an hour of it.
When you write to us, the person who answers is the person who will be at your event. That is not a service promise so much as a description of the size of the operation.
Why this exists
The events worth going to around here are rarely in a town. They are in a masia down a dirt road, on a headland above a cala, at the start of a gravel route at seven in the morning, in a vineyard at the end of a long lunch.
All of those places have the same problem: the coffee is an afterthought. A thermos, a jug, something instant, or nothing at all — at exactly the moment people need a reason to stop, stand together and talk to each other.
Coffee is the excuse for that. The queue is where guests who have not met introduce themselves. That is the actual product, and it does not survive being made badly.
Why the bar is in a 4x4 and not on a cart
A wheeled cart needs a flat surface, a short push and somebody else's electricity. Most of the places we work have none of those.
It gets there
Four-wheel drive, so a gravel track, a farm road or a field after rain is a route rather than a reason to say no. If a car can reach it, so can the coffee.
It arrives self-contained
Power and water travel with us. Nothing is plugged into the venue, nothing is filled from somebody's kitchen, and nothing stops when a generator elsewhere on the site is switched off.
It looks like something
A black 4x4 with an espresso bar in the back is photographed without anyone being asked to. That is useful for a brand day and, honestly, quite useful at a wedding too.
A proper bar, not a travel kettle
A commercial espresso machine and a grinder, mounted and plumbed into the vehicle rather than carried in and balanced on a trestle table. Milk steamed properly, one drink at a time, the way it would be in a café that people queue outside.
The reason to say this out loud is that the alternative is extremely common: filter urns, pump flasks and a tray of cups that went cold before the speeches. That is not what turns up.
Beans we would drink ourselves
Specialty coffee, ground on site rather than the day before, dialled in on the morning for the water and the weather we actually have. Milk, and the alternatives people ask for, treated as part of the drink rather than a substitution.
If you want to know exactly what is in the hopper on your date, ask — it is a real answer, not a marketing one.
The things we care about
-
One event at a time
One vehicle means we are not somewhere else halfway through your day, and it means we say no to dates we cannot do properly.
-
Say the price
Nobody in this market publishes numbers. We think that costs you a phone call to find out something you should be able to read, so our prices are on the site.
-
Leave nothing behind
Waste, grounds, cups and packaging leave with us. A field after an event should look like a field.
-
Answer the awkward questions early
Access, parking, shade, timing. Two minutes of questions before booking prevents the bad surprise on the day, and we would rather have that conversation than avoid it.
Where you will find us
There is no shop to visit. We are a service that travels to you, across the Costa Brava, Girona and the Empordà — and further when the day is worth the drive.
Tell us about the day
Date, place, roughly how many people. We answer with a real price, not a form letter.
